Holly Eaves To Complete Donna Chambers’ Term On Chariho School Committee
On April 27, the Town Council appointed Holly Eaves to represent Charlestown on the Chariho District School Committee. Holly will serve until November, completing the remainder of Donna Chambers’ term. She will be able to contribute to the school committee immediately.
Holly earned an advanced degree in education from the University of Rhode Island and also has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Like Donna, Holly is an education professional. She worked for over 14 years as a teacher as well as having a professional engineering career since 1988.
Holly has been owner/manager of Eaves Devices, an engineering firm specializing in energy storage and power systems controls that she co-founded since 1999. Since 2006, she has served as president of the firm, which is currently an incubator for new ideas.
From 1988 through 1993, Holly was a senior associate Engineer at IBM, where she was a team leader for mainframe system simulation, and from 1993 to 1997, as a subcontractor, she developed man–machine interfaces for large plastics manufacturing lines.
From 2010 to 2024, she was a teacher in the East Greenwich school system. She taught algebra to middle schoolers and then mathematics and computer science in the high school. In addition, she mentored teams of girls, through a program called Technovation, in identifying community problems and developing mobile applications or Al- based solutions to the problems; mentored students working with the National Youth Cyber Education Program, a program created by the Air & Space Forces Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or STEM; and mentored students in the East Greenwich Computer Science Club.
She has also been an active volunteer in education in her community. From 2006 through 2010 she served on the Chariho District School Committee, including as its chair from 2008 to 2010. In addition, from 1998 to 2004, she was a member of the Charlestown School Improvement Team and the PTO, as a board member, treasurer, and extracurricular instructor.
From 1998 to 2009, Ms. Eaves served on the Board of Directors of the Frosty Drew Nature Center and Observatory. She was its president from 2005 to 2009 and its treasurer from 2006 to 2007, and was instrumental in the construction of Frosty Drew’s Sky Theatre. She currently volunteers for South County Habitat for Humanity Restore.
You can read more about Holly in her resume that she submitted as part of her application to fill the seat made vacant by the sad passing of Donna Chambers.
Holly’s appointment runs only until three Charlestown positions are filled by election in November. Each of these elected school committee positions will have a 4-year term. Ms. Eaves and any of the other school committee members with expiring terms are free to run again in the November election, as are any other candidates who might declare for these open seats.
