The state is offering once-in-a-lifetime support to upgrade our schools; it’s a life raft to the taxpayers. Don’t drown in your own indecision. Don’t let the tax naysayers push you into a short-sighted decision. So vote to make your tax dollars go further with this offer from the state or reject the life raft that they offer and bear the full burden later on (or as they say in the advertising world, “future regret”).
I am constantly amazed at the lack of fealty demonstrated by some acknowledged graduates of Chariho High School to their alma mater. They are a subset that proudly proclaim that they graduated from Chariho as they propose to cut the school system’s budget, programs and staff.
When you cast your ballot this election season, try to think as strategically as Susan, try to be better than those who want to benefit the few, and do your part in continuing to make Charlestown a desirable place to live.
This is why she is well-respected in the field of adult education and in the development of learning methodologies. This is why she is considered a trustworthy and reliable friend and colleague. She is on the Chariho School Committee and is committed to the prospect of improving upon the school district’s already laudable ranking within the state.
Because the survey was proposed to help the Town Council make budget decisions in the future, it is an important planning tool for future budget development, land use planning, and town funding and purchases. The results of the survey have to matter or else the town has wasted the taxpayers money, time and effort.
Congratulations to all who have participated. You all have done something positive for your neighbors, neighborhoods, and the town as a whole. The level of commitment to keeping Charlestown beautiful is one of the most admirable aspects of living here. We are a community that cares about our neighborhoods. There is a lot to like about Charlestown and its community spirit is one of those things.
Charlestown will again conduct a roadside cleanup on Saturday, April 23. Every piece of litter is potentially a danger to wildlife. Every piece of litter is an eyesore. Every piece of litter says something about the careless habits of some drivers in Charlestown — and neighboring towns.
Chariho is a high-performing school system. It has excellent teachers. Its students perform very well on standardized tests. The parents are involved and committed to having the best educational benefits available for their children. Not passing the Chariho budget, which is totally in line with the cost of living, will not serve the children.
When so much time and effort in local government is devoted to just managing the status quo, it is refreshing to see that there is some outside-the-box thinking going on in Charlestown. Councilor Cooper is one person who encourages improvements in the lifestyle of Charlestown residents.
If you have ever asked yourself what one person can do to benefit their community, there are many examples of people who stand out. People who see a need and pursue a workable solution are all around us. In Charlestown, I can offer one example of an ordinary citizen who saw a problem, persevered, and is currently working to solve a town wide problem.
With the swearing in of the new Town Council in Charlestown last week, I took the opportunity to review the accomplishments of those public servants who have moved on to other pursuits in life. The Town of Charlestown has been fortunate in that over the past 10 years the residents and taxpayers have enjoyed a well-run government.
If you have the time to review the list of people who signed petitions or wrote letters to the Federal Railroad Administration, you will find that there are CCA members and supporters’ names sprinkled liberally through the records, but not one (NOT ONE) member of CRU took the time to watch their neighbor’s back. NOT ONE! Check the list of CRU candidates against the record, NOT ONE! It’s comforting to know that CCA-supported officials will go to bat for their neighbors.
