Give Food for Christmas

The holidays are rich in good food and drink. We shouldn’t forget to thank the farmers who make it all possible nor forget those who sadly experience hunger this time of year.

Give Thanks to Local Farmers

The Charlestown Land Trust Farmers’ Market – The Farmers’ Market offers the opportunity for the community to meet and celebrate a summer morning, exchange ideas, and reap the bounty of local farms. In addition to farm fresh, locally grown and produced fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, cheese, breads, pastries, seafood, flowers, honey and more, the Farmers’ Market also supports local artists and craftspeople in addition to the freshest food possible. Anyone who has been well fed at the market should know that the Charlestown Land Trust is a volunteer effort to support local farmers and help them keep their land in farming rather than development.

Birds Get Hungry Too

Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island – Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuges provide resting, feeding and nesting habitat for more than 250 bird species. The Friends provide support for many projects, one of which is to raise money to fill the Refuge birdseed feeders. The feeders help support the birds through the winter when wild foods are scarce.
