Wear Daylight Fluorescent Orange For Safety Reasons Starting September 9
What: Be Safe! Be sure to wear at least 200 square inches of florescent orange (usually a hat and or a vest) when hiking on state, federal, or other public and private open space.
When: *September 9, 2023 – February 16, 2024 for deer, and until May 19 for other game.
All users of State Management Areas and designated undeveloped State Parks, including but not limited to: hunters, hikers, bikers, horseback riders etc. are required to wear two hundred (200) square inches of solid daylight fluorescent orange during hunting season.
During the shotgun deer season in December, five hundred (500) square inches are required to be worn by all users.
Examples are: a hat that covers 200 square inches or a combination of hat and vest covering 500 square inches.
If you bring your dog with you on hikes, don’t forget to protect your dog! You can get orange vests for your dog too.

Stores like URE Outfitters in Hope Valley carry many items in the correct florescent orange color required during hunting season.
The Rhode Island Division of Fish and Wildlife Outdoor Education has created this easy to understand chart so that you know when to wear blaze orange when visiting State Management Areas and undeveloped State Parks and other large open space properties where hunting might be happening.

Yes, John. Thank you….I hope they will wear the bright colors while biking and walking all year round….on the paths, in the woods and on the roads.

Thanks CCA …. I would urge all walkers (and their dogs) and cyclists on the woodland roads in Charlestown to wear hunters orange or other high visibility clothing so that vehicle drivers can see them in good time.
