Frosty Drew’s Inspire, Discover, Enlighten, and Awe Fundraising Exposition

UPDATE: Due to the forecast for rain, fog, and clouds on Saturday, many parts of the on site event will not happen. They will have their astronomers on site, but all outdoor activities will not be available.

Where: Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center in Ninigret Park
When: Saturday, September 9 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
What: Third Annual Inspire, Discover, Enlighten, and Awe (IDEA) Fundraising Exposition
Cost: Admission is free with the expectation that visitors will donate to help Frosty Drew achieve their yearly goals.

The mission of the Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center is to enlighten, discover, and inspire – through education and research – knowledge about science, the night sky, and the universe, and this is a day for visitors to get excited about all that Frosty Drew has done and is doing to fulfill that mission.

During the event, the entire Frosty Drew campus will be open and in exposition mode. Tents will be set up with showcases and presentations hosted by the Frosty Drew Astronomy Team and the Board of Directors.

  • Frosty Drew astronomers will have all of their solar telescopes operational and showing the Sun live in different wavelengths.
  • Frosty Drew astronomers and engineers will be hosting a “Dissect a Telescope” station that will showcase the inner workings of different telescope designs that are frequently used at Frosty Drew. Each of these telescopes will be taken apart with each component available for inspection.
  • There will be an opportunity to learn the history of Frosty Drew and the Memorial Fund that oversees the Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center.
  • As a centerpiece of the expo Frosty Drew astronomers and engineers will showcase their new primary observatory telescope – the Planewave CDK 600. This new telescope is 8 inches larger than their previous 16-inch telescope, utilizes the cutting-edge Corrected Dahl-Kirkman (CDK) design, and replaced the large telescope inside the observatory dome in 2021. The addition of this fantastic device will open new opportunities for Frosty Drew programs, research, and public enthusiasm for years to come!

There is more about the Expo at the Frosty Drew website.
