DEM Says Over 30,000 Square Feet Of Wetlands Missing

On August 10, The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management issued a notice that approximately 30,845 square feet of wetlands at the quarry on Rt. 91 in Charlestown had been altered.

The letter then requires the land owner to restore the wetland and provides the methods and plant species necessary to achieve that. The full RI DEM notice is available from DEM or from the Town of Charlestown Zoning Office.

Rhode Island now produces high resolution aerial photographs of the state about every six months. These allow state agencies and others to more easily visualize changes to land. The maps are available at the RI DEM website.
