Pre-Survey Results
In late October a short survey was mailed to every resident and taxpayer in Charlestown, asking what you like most about our town, but also if you think improvement might be needed. The results of that “pre-survey” are now ready.
This short pre-survey was the first part of a two part process. The quick pre-survey was to let the survey company know what major community issues and topics they need to address or explore in the larger more comprehensive survey.
Now that the results of this pre-survey are tabulated, they will follow up with a second survey to dive deeper into the important community topics residents identified.

I would urge that people click on the survey image above to open the survey report document.
For a quick look at the results scroll down to pages 5, 6, 7, and 8 where the results are shown in easy-to-understand bar charts.
Page 5 shows very clearly the dominant 4 main reasons that people report the best things about living in Charlestown are: the beaches, low taxes, rural/small town, and green spaces.
Pages 6 through 8 list respondents suggestions for improvements needed, important issues, and topics for the main survey. These are good initial information but they need to be better defined and quantified. This will hopefully be done in the main survey.

The results of Question A show that Charlestown has been moving in the right direction and preserving what is important to its residents. Questions B, C, and D address the future of Charlestown and may imply that the issues and concerns outweigh the satisfactions the residents have identified. Nevertheless, we need to understand exactly what the issues are and not rely solely on some catchall description of “issues” or “concerns”.
I hope the followup survey seeks more definitive descriptions of issues than captured in the pre-survey.
