George Tremblay: In deference to Robert Malin
The following letter was submitted to local newspapers and is shared with us here by the author George C. Tremblay. Mr. Tremblay is a member of the Charlestown Town Council.
Robert Malin is a strong advocate for social justice and protection of the environment. His vocal opposition to the Invenergy proposal to build a fossil-fuel power plant in Burrillville received widespread attention throughout the state.
I met Robert when he became an opposition candidate for town council in Charlestown. We joked about the extent of our common aspirations across the political divide, and we’ve enjoyed a cordial relationship despite our different political roots. Robert is a good man.
Sad to report, his public voice has been silenced by a series of medical crises precipitated by an illness that had him hospitalized.
For those who know him, and others aware of his work, Robert’s passion has been social justice, not financial gain. You can help him in this time of financial duress by making a donation through https://www.gofundme.com/skv2r-cancer-treatment-fund .
Sincerely,
George Tremblay
Addendum: Robert was in hospice when this letter was published. We are sorry to report that Robert Malin passed away late on June 16. The financial need that George writes of above continues however for his widow. There is a little more background on the events that led up to this in our previous post on Robert’s condition.

Thank you, George. I am out of the state at this time, but I checked CCA to see how he was doing and read your kind words. I knew this site would have the information I was looking for.

Thank you for word on Robert. May he rest in peace.
Thank you also for advising about the continuing need of his widow. I’ve no doubt people will care for her.
