Ninigret Pond Dredging Kickoff

On Friday, November 18, 2016, CRMC had a kick off of the Ninigret Breachway dredging and salt marsh restoration project in Charlestown.

The project is a Federal Grant for $3.25 M written by CRMC.

Caitlin Chaffee the Project leader was the master of ceremonies.

Speakers were:

  • Anne Maxwell Livingston, CRMC Chair
  • Grover Fugate, Executive Director, CRMC
  • US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse
  • US Senator Jack Reed
  • US Representative Jim Langevin

Ms. Chaffee spoke of Charlestown’s GIS Manager, Steve McCandless’ efforts to provide data essential to the dredging project.

Dredging will begin after Thanksgiving and is scheduled to be completed by January 1, 2017.

Part of the grant will be engineering for Quonnie dredging in the near future.
