How To Volunteer For The Chariho School Committee Vacancy

With the sad passing of Donna Chambers there is now a vacancy on the Chariho School Committee. Donna was one of Charlestown’s four representatives to the Committee.

The Chariho District School Committee members are elected, but when a vacancy occurs between elections, the position is filled by appointment.

The Charlestown Town Council will appoint someone to fill this position at the April 27 Town Council meeting. The appointee will serve until the November election.

To volunteer for the School Committee, an applicant must fill out the town’s official Board, Commission, and Committee Application. The application should be submitted to the Charlestown Town Clerk. Applications can be submitted via email at ARWeinreich@CharlestownRI.gov or by postal mail to Town Clerk, 4540 South County Trail, Charlestown, RI 02813, or by dropping off at the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall. You can attach your resume or any other information to the application.

Applications for appointment are usually expected to be received the Wednesday before the meeting, so applicants should make sure their paperwork is received by the Town Clerk on or before April 22.

Charlestown belongs to a regional school district comprised of Charlestown, Richmond, and Hopkington (CHARIHO), and the schools are run by the District School Committee. Each town has four representatives on the Committee, and there will be three Charlestown positions to be filled this next election in November.
