Please join us on Thursday, October 2; Friday, October 3; or Saturday October 4 anytime from 1 pm to 3 pm, at the Charlestown Mini Super and help Bonnie Van Slyke get on the December 2 ballot.

One Open Position On Town Council 

Bonnie Van Slyke was a member of the Charlestown Town Council from 2014 to 2022. She was the Town Council Liaison to the Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and Senior Citizens Commission. She is a former officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Frosty Drew Observatory & Science Center, a former Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Harvard, MA and a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Harvard Conservation Trust. Bonnie is a freelance copy editor, technical writer, and publications specialist.

Because Town Councilor Richard “Rippy” Serra’s passing on August 7 created a vacancy on the Town Council more than one year prior to the 2026 election, the Town’s Charter requires a special election rather than an appointment.

The special election is required to follow state election law and timetables. Just like a regular election, there are declarations of candidacy, nomination papers, mail ballots, early voting, etc.

There is one position on the December 2 ballot and the person who receives the highest vote count will fill the empty position on the Town Council.
