Town Councilor Richard “Rippy” Serra Dead At 64

The Westerly Sun and various social media accounts have sadly reported that Richard “Rippy” Serra died in his sleep on the night of August 7.

Mr. Serra currently served as the Vice-President of the Charlestown Town Council and had been elected to the Town Council since 2022. He had also been elected to the Town Council in 2002.

He was the owner of Rippy’s Liquor and Marketplace on Rt. 2 in Charlestown and had been a fixture in the store for over forty years.

UPDATE: There is now an obituary for Mr. Serra, which includes the following information: “Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 14th from 4pm – 7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Family and friends are also invited to a Funeral Service at 10am on Friday, August 15th in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
