Handcrafted River Herring Art Supports Land Trust
Local artisan and woodworker, Brian O’Connor of South County Paddles, has carved the beautiful diorama named “Anadromous Ascension III” that is pictured in the banner image for this post. Anadromous Ascension refers to the migration of fish, like river herring, from the ocean to freshwater rivers to spawn.
The Charlestown Land Trust is holding a raffle of the framed and hand carved piece and will pick a winner on August 29 at the Charlestown Farmers’ Market.
- Enter the drawing for a chance to take home “Anadromous Ascension III.”
- Each $10 ticket supports the Charlestown Land Trust.
- You can pick up tickets in person every Friday morning at the Charlestown Farmers’ Market at the General Stanton Inn (9am–12pm).
- The winning ticket will be drawn at the final market of the season on Friday, August 29th at noon—but don’t worry, you don’t need to be present to win!
Protection and restoration of these valuable fish populations is done through measures like dam removal, fish ladders, and habitat restoration projects. Land conservation that protects forests and water quality of streams and rivers is critical to these species survival and depends on organizations like the Charlestown Land Trust.
