Give the Gift of Charlestown this Holiday Season
We live in a beautiful community, rich in natural resources. Giving your friends and family gift memberships in local environmental organizations, or making year-end gifts directly to these organizations, can help to preserve and protect our local environment. Below are some ideas for holiday gifts that can make a positive difference in our local environment.
Give the Gift of Land
The Charlestown Land Trust – Charlestown’s land trust preserves and protects the distinctive character of our local area through acquisition and management of open space.
Rhode Island Chapter of The Nature Conservancy – In Charlestown, TNC has protected over 1,300 acres of land. Your donations help them to continue these efforts.
Give the Moon and the Stars
Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center – The Frosty Drew Observatory has numerous telescopes and accessories for viewing the skies above thanks to generous supporters, members, and grants.
Give Healthy Salt Ponds
Salt Ponds Coalition – Membership in the Salt Ponds Coalition is a great way to help ensure the health and vitality of the coastal ponds that form the southern border of Charlestown. The Salt Ponds Coalition engages in many year-round activities including habitat protection and restoration, free public education and programming, water quality monitoring and more.
Give a Wild and Scenic River
Wood Pawcatuck Watershed Association – The Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association promotes and protects the integrity of the lands and waters of the Pawcatuck Watershed. That Pawcatuck watershed makes up most of Charlestown’s land area and the Pawcatuck River forms the northern border of the town.
