When: Thursday, September 19 at 4:00 pm
Where: Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown
What: Release of two Sea Turtles

Phineas and Tullibee

“Phineas”
Phineas, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, was found in Bridgeport, CT on July 26 with a fishing hook embedded in its esophagus. Thanks to quick action from Bridgeport Animal Control and the Mystic Aquarium veterinary team, the hook was removed, and Phineas recovered from an infection. Now, Phineas is ready to return to the ocean!

“Tullibee”
Tullibee, a green sea turtle, was rescued from Middletown, RI on September 12. After careful monitoring, Mystic Aquarium veterinarians confirmed Tullibee was free of any complications and prepared for release after just one week in their care.

Sea turtles face many threats like entanglement, habitat loss, and climate change, but with each turtle returned to the wild, a huge impact is made on their population. Every turtle has the potential to lay hundreds of eggs, playing a crucial role in the survival of their species.
