Charlestown’s Art Ganz will give a presentation about the erosion of the barrier beaches and damage to the west jetty of the Charlestown Breachway, which has resulted in large amounts of sand to shoal in the channel. Mr. Ganz will explain why this has happened, discuss the plans to increase the resiliency of the dunes and the breachway to help ensure the continued viability of Ninigret Pond, and answer questions. His presentation will be illustrated by drone videos of the breachways and the coast shot by Bob Petrone.

Mr. Ganz is a retired marine biologist who has studied the ponds and been involved in the maintenance of the Charlestown and Quonochotaug Breachways since the 1980s. He has also developed management projects since 1970 and serves as a member of our town’s Coastal Ponds Management Commission.

There will be time for questions and answers about the future of the Charlestown Breachway.

This discussion was organized by Charlestown Town Council candidate Angela Jalbert.
