Charlestown’s Carter Preserve Featured In RI PBS Video
Rhode Island PBS has created some short segments called Trail Stories that they show between longer programs. This one features the fabulous Carter Preserve, the 1,100 acre preserve located in Charlestown and owned by the Nature Conservancy (TNC). The film opens with the Tarzan Brown Trail and is narrated by TNC’s Tim Mooney. Check out our open space guide to learn more about the Francis C. Carter Memorial Preserve.

The gypsy moths did a lot of damage, downed trees and others ready to fall … it is recommended to NOT go there in windy weather.

Carter Preserve is indeed a local pleasure and treasure that we have enjoyed many times.
More information including its location on a map is on: https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/francis-c-carter-memorial-preserve/
This site says that dogs must be leashed at all times, horseback riding is allowed (we have never met a horse there). My understanding 1s that off road vehicles and trail bikes are not allowed.

But nature holds that land now in its embrace – it is always being healed. You should go there (after the mosquitos are not so bad) sometime soon and see how beautiful it has become. It is a peaceful life filled place of memory now for Mr. Peabody.
