Double Seal Release Friday, May 17 at Blue Shutters Beach

What: Release of two seals back to the wild

“Gnocchi”
A young male gray seal was reported on Martha’s Vineyard on February 15, 2024. He was dehydrated and lethargic and had an injury to his right eye. The injured eye needed to be surgically removed and, after a successful surgery, he is ready to return to his ocean home!

“Ditalini”
A juvenile male harp seal was rescued from Pawcatuck, CT on March 26, 2024. The seal was thin, dehydrated, and had some skin wounds and pneumonia. He has recovered well in rehabilitation and is ready to return to his ocean home!

Congratulations to the staff, volunteers, and community members that made their recovery possible!These rescues depended on the efforts of Mystic Aquarium’s network partners on Martha’s Vineyard and from the Whale & Dolphin Conservation Program who assisted with Gnocchi’s rescue.
