Recycle Your Christmas Tree And Help Improve Rhode Island’s Rivers!
When: Saturday, January 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Arcadia Check Station, off Rt. 165, 2224 Ten Rod Road, Exeter
In partnership with Trout Unlimited (TU) Rhode Island Chapter, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s (DEM) Division of Fish and Wildlife is once again collecting trees after the New Year for upcoming projects to restore river habitats by reducing erosion and creating refuge habitat for fish, turtles, and other aquatic organisms.
This process is called Conifer Revetment and it helps restore rivers that have become wide and shallow due to flooding and storms. The trees are strategically installed to reduce erosion, provide refuge habitat, and stabilize stream banks.
PLEASE NOTE: No synthetic trees, trees with tinsel/other synthetic materials still attached, or trees sprayed with fire retardant chemicals. All decorations and lights, as well as the stand, must be removed before the tree is brought in. They are only interested in whole conifers, please do not bring tree trimmings.
