Celebrate Trails Day By Exploring Charlestown’s Open Space
When: Saturday, April 22
Where: Pick any local trail
Celebrate Trails Day is a nation-wide annual spring celebration that has been presented by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and its partners on the fourth Saturday of April since 2013. The celebration encourages people to get outside and enjoy our nation’s exceptional trails and trail systems. In Charlestown, getting outside and connecting with nature is easy with over twenty public open spaces located throughout our town.
You could combine Litter Pick-Up Day, which is also on April 22, with Celebrate Trails Day by picking up litter along your hike.
To be safe, you should wear hunter orange, even if the preserve you are hiking does not allow hunting. If you are hiking on state land, you are required to wear orange from September through May. Check our post on hunting seasons for dates when you need to wear orange and how much orange is required.
Also check out Wood Pawcatuck Wild and Scenic Rivers website with maps and directions to different places to put in your canoe, and route maps and distances to help you plan your paddle.

My wife Fran and I are trying to walk all of these Charlestown trails this year, and we have made a good start with 11 done so far :-)) … we are so lucky to have them.
Fran has suggested that some little trinket/ornament/label or something be available for each trail walked that can be collected …. stuck onto a jacket, or hat, or hiking stick. Does anyone have any ideas how this could be done?
