Please Join CCA In Supporting Our Neighbors In Need
Food insecurity continues to rise nationally due to the pandemic and our town is no exception. The Rhode Island Center Assisting Those In Need (RI CAN) is a local lifeline to many. We are asking you to join CCA’s fundraising campaign with a financial donation that will be presented to RI CAN.
We have much to give thanks for here in Charlestown – we live in a beautiful community with a very high quality of life. But 2021 has been a year with significant challenges resulting in many in our community experiencing food insecurity and lack of resources.
We thank everyone for supporting this cause last year and we are energized to hold a 2021 Fundraiser for RI CAN. Last year, we raised over $10,000 due to the generosity of you and your neighbors. We are asking you once again to help those in need in our community during the holiday season by joining the Charlestown Citizens Alliance fundraiser in support of the primary food bank in Charlestown; The Rhode Island Center Assisting Those In Need (RI CAN).
RI CAN is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency food, clothing, and other vital support measures to neighbors in crisis throughout the state, primarily in Washington County and the surrounding areas.
Through partnerships with local grocery stores, RI CAN rescues thousands of pounds of food every work week for the benefit of their guests. They also operate a thrift shop adjacent to the pantry to furnish guests with clothing and household items.
The primary objective in breaking the cycle of poverty is to alleviate hunger and food insecurity. At the center of this effort is their food distribution facility in Charlestown, RI.
This year to date:
- 318,300 pounds of food have been distributed.
- 3o,000 pounds on average are distributed monthly.
- 5,232 individuals making up 2,335 households have received food.
Your donations will make a difference!
- A $25 dollar donation will feed a household for 1 day.
- A $100 dollar donation will support a week of donated food.
- A $200 dollar donation will support 2 weeks of donated food.
Make out your check to RI CAN and submit it in one of 2 ways in support of the CCA Fundraiser:
1. Send your check made out to RI CAN to Sheila Andrew and we will present them as a group to RI CAN in a holiday box.
Please mail the check to:

2. Send your check made out to RI CAN directly to RI CAN with our group name, CCA, in the memo line.

Last year’s campaign was a great success. More money was raised than expected. For those who ran the campaign and those who donated, this was one satisfying aspect of their holiday celebration. This year, the need is as great as it was last year; food insecurity is eroding the hopes of many local families – our neighbors. We can pledge our support to helping our less fortunate neighbors by writing a check from our surplus funds. Think of how disheartening it is to go to the cupboard and find it empty, especially during this holiday season. You can make a difference.
