CCA Fundraiser Results In Over $10K For RI CAN
Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraiser for RI CAN!! We raised over $5000.00 and an anonymous donor has matched each of your donations to result in over $10,000.00 to support RI CAN!
Starting in mid-November, the Charlestown Citizens Alliance (CCA) hosted a fundraiser in support of the primary food bank in Charlestown — the Rhode Island Center Assisting those in Need (RI CAN).
On December 18, we delivered a box with your donation checks made out to RI CAN to Dana Moriarty. Dana is the Administrator at RI CAN and the first one to greet volunteers or visitors when you visit RI CAN.
RI CAN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency food, clothing, and other vital support measures to neighbors in crisis throughout our area.
Through partnerships with local grocery stores, RI CAN rescues thousands of pounds of food every work week for the benefit of their clients. They also operate a thrift shop adjacent to the pantry to furnish guests with clothing and household items.
A primary objective in breaking the cycle of poverty is to alleviate hunger and food insecurity. At the center of this effort is their food distribution facility in Charlestown, RI. This year their need has increased by 63% over last year. They normally serve 120-150 households and distribute about 253,000 pounds of food. However, this year more than 385,812 pounds of food will have been distributed.
The Charlestown Citizens Alliance urged those who could to donate to RI CAN and you did! Your donations during this Holiday COVID-19 Season will make a difference!
You can still donate by writing a check to RI CAN (note CCA in the memo line to help monitor the effectiveness of this campaign) at Rhode Island Center Assisting those in Need, PO Box 73. Carolina, RI 02812.
Thank you so very much for supporting our neighbors in need!

Thank you to all the donors for stepping up and giving a bit of relief to families that are in need. This is the highest calling among neighbors. Thank you to the Charlestown Citizens Alliance for seeing a need among our neighbors and doing what it could to ease their burdens. There is more to Charlestown than open spaces and low taxes; there are good and caring neighbors.
