Charlestown Beach Lots Have Been Well Promoted
Since March of 2015, when CCA published a guide to Charlestown open space for the community, we have promoted all the town-owned lots along the barrier beach east of the Charlestown Breachway, as well as the right to public access along the shore of the entire beach. The map below, found under Charlestown Beach in the guide, shows where the town-owned properties are located along that section of barrier beach. Not shown is the part of the Charlestown Town Beach in South Kingstown.
And then this map below, which is found under Charlestown Breachway in the guide, shows the state-owned public land adjoining the town-owned property.
As part of the election silly season, our opponents are saying these properties have been kept a secret, yet they are heavily used by townspeople. We promote our Open Space Guide as a banner image on our website, and in every CCA newsletter, and we promote the Guide from time to time at Facebook and Twitter. If someone hasn’t read Charlestown’s Comprehensive Plan, hasn’t looked at the GIS maps on Charlestown’s website, doesn’t look at the CCA website, or doesn’t follow our Facebook, Twitter or e-mail accounts, then yes they might have been missed. If some still don’t know about these lots, it’s not because of our lack of trying. It’s impossible to read everything, so we certainly aren’t faulting anyone who doesn’t know, but it’s just not been a secret.
Below is the entry for Charlestown Beach from our guide, explaining where town owned land is and where public access is allowed.
Owned by the Town of Charlestown, this collection of different properties includes beach parcels that are contiguous with the State Breachway and another beach area closer to the town parking lot. There are lifeguards in the summer and access to fishing.
The water front changes from state to town to private properties so for a long walk you will have to stay below the mean high tide line. Facing the ocean, you can turn to the left and walk for a long distance into South Kingstown along the beaches associated with the Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge.

Good luck to all running for office. May CCA continue to dominate.
