Greg Stroud, Founder Of SECoast, Launches Online Newspaper To Cover Coastal Connecticut

Greg Stroud

In late 2016 when CCA discovered the federal railroad proposal for the “Old Saybrook to Kenyon Bypass” that threatened to bisect northern Charlestown, our first internet searches on the proposal turned up SECoast and connected us to Greg Stroud. Greg and his team were years ahead of us in knowledge and activism against the proposal, but they didn’t have in-depth knowledge of Charlestown and what was at stake locally. The combination of Greg’s knowledge and talent and our Rhode Island connections allowed two states to join in opposition to a destructive plan and ultimately win. It’s definitely in Charlestown’s interest that Greg continues to be engaged and located in our region. Things change in Washington D.C., and it is possible the plan could eventually be revived. If that happens we want Greg near by!

We are very happy to share the news that Greg Stroud has launched a new newspaper “The Connecticut Examiner.”  The online newspaper will provide thoughtful nonpartisan in-depth coverage of Lyme-Old Lyme and follow news across the region. If you know anyone in coastal Connecticut, make sure to share The Connecticut Examiner’s website at ctexaminer.com. The website will be ready to go live on May 20th, but in the mean time if you go to the website’s address you can sign up to receive the newspaper in your email inbox. Like the railroad proposal, issues in Connecticut can spread into Rhode Island, so it’s worthwhile for Charlestown residents to follow Greg’s paper as well.

In another Charlestown connection, Greg has hired Catherine Hewitt as one of the reporters for The Connecticut Examiner. Catherine previously covered Charlestown in her work for the Westerly Sun.
