Salt Pond Dredging Finished – What’s Next?

The dredging operations in Quonochontaug and Ninigret Ponds have finished, but the work to restore the marshes hasn’t ended.

There has been some recent activity with installation of dune fencing and planting. The fencing will help reduce movement of the fine sand until planting can take hold. The marsh will be restored as soon as the weather warms.

DEM is relocating and rebuilding the launch ramp at the Quonochontaug Breachway as well as a safe pier to assist with launching. DEM however, is not going to improve the entry road and parking area.
