Video: Art Ganz Explains Dredge Material Distribution From Quonochontaug & Ninigret Ponds
Thanks to Bob Petrone for this video. Dredge material from Quonochontaug Pond and Ninigret Pond is being distributed to Quonnie’s salt marshes and Charlestown Beach. In this video, Art Ganz explains the dredging operations. Both Quonochontaug & Ninigret Breachways are being dredged this winter to restore the marshes and improve water quality and the health of the salt ponds. Art Ganz is President of the Salt Ponds Coalition.

I am Steve Long’s nephew and every time I’ve been to Quonnie, the ponds have smelled. Getting more water in the through the breech way will help a lot because it will dilute the nasty water and be healthier for the turtles and other critters that live in the ponds. Dredging it enough to have some water during even low tide would be great but I’m sure at times the tide is too low to really flow into the ponds. The dredging should really increase the water intake volume during high tide though.
