Update and Discussion of Federal Railroad Administration Plan at Kettle Pond
When: Thursday, March 30 at 7PM
Where: Kettle Pond Visitor Center, 50 Bend Rd., Charlestown
What: Status Update and Discussion on “Old Saybrook to Kenyon Bypass”
The “waiting period” after the publication of the Final EIS ended on January 31. The “extension” to receive comments was granted until the publication of the Record of Decision (ROD). The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has said the ROD could be published anytime between now and December 31st, 2017.
At our March 30th meeting we’ll discuss how we found out about the plan, what we expect next, what we should do now, and what we’ll do when the ROD is published. Please bring your questions and ideas.
Our guest speaker is Gregory Stroud, Ph.D. Greg is Director of Special Projects at the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation. Greg was also the founder of the grassroots advocacy group on High-Speed Rail, SECoast.
Greg is the most knowledgeable person about the Bypass and the entire NEC Future plan. We discovered the Bypass on December 16 2016. When we did some searching on the web that day we also discovered Greg, and he has been a terrific help to Charlestown ever since.
Please join us and bring your questions on March 30!
Kettle Pond Visitor Center is located on Bend Road, directly off of Rt. 1 in Charlestown

We wanted to come to the meeting tonight but were unable to make it. We would like to show our supporte for the alliance against the moving of the railroad track in Charlestown. our property abuts the rr track just below Kenyon mill and if the changes are made we would loose our home. Please let us know what we can do to help fight this.
Thank You. The Zachorne Family

This event is March 30 2017 yet the notice says: “The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has said the ROD could be published anytime between now and January 31st, 2017.” January 2017 ????
Does this mean that this high speed rail travel can go back in time?

Freight trains do run backwards 🙂 But that was an editing error. Should read “December 31” and we have fixed that now. Thanks for the heads up!
