Video of Proposed Train Route Through Charlestown
This video follows the path of a proposed new pair of train tracks through Charlestown. The existing tracks will remain for freight and slower trains. The new tracks are for a higher speed train with Providence as the only RI stop.
We estimate the new route through Charlestown will save less than one minute of travel time.

It seems Sen Reed is supporting the mutilation of RI farmland and bucolic countryside in order to build a new RR track through Charlestown. Can’t find any commitment either way from other leaders…Rep. Langivan and Cicillini or Sen. Whitehouse. Nothing from Governor Raimondo. This sounds like a boondoggle if ever there was one…defined as ……. a wasteful or impractical project or activity often involving graft….
Sure it would create jobs…but, how many would go to to out of work Rhode Islanders?

There is no benefit afforded to the commuter with this proposal. When you consider the great cost to implement this proposal, one must assume the cost will be added on to the commuters fare. Then consider the cost to the community in uprooted taxpayers, as well as the destruction of tribal lands and historical properties. Clearly there is one winner in this and that is Amtrak, although it would take years to recoup the cost of this endeavor. This is a valueless idea. Scrap it before you waste another dime on it!
