Sarah E. St. Laurent – Planning Commission

Sarah spent part of her childhood in Rhode Island, later studying in Newport, but her years of work and raising a family were spent in Connecticut. Rhode Island was a place for vacations—a place where she would ride her bike, hike and enjoy the natural beauty of its rivers, beaches and forests. Life’s circumstances always kept pulling her back to Rhode Island, and 9 years ago she and her husband purchased the perfect home in Charlestown. She is now very happy to call Charlestown her permanent home, becoming a full-time resident 5 years ago when she retired from her career in nursing. Sarah has felt a deep connection to our community from the beginning of her time here, but the recent threat to neighborhoods, wildlife, and protected open space by the Federal Railroad Administration plan for new train tracks through northern Charlestown, and Invenergy’s plan to withdraw water from our aquifer and truck it out of town have inspired her to become actively involved. Sarah believes in preserving our environment and protecting our farmlands, forests, wetlands, beaches, rivers and ponds, as well as the cultural heritage of our historic villages, and in encouraging and supporting local Rhode Island businesses.
