Night Sky Celebration - A Charlestown "Star Party"

Where: Frosty Drew Campus in Ninigret Park
Why: To Celebrate Charlestown's Beautiful Star-Filled Skies
Who: Charlestown RI Dark Sky Advocates in Cooperation with Frosty Drew Observatory & Science Center
All are welcome at this "Star Party" to enjoy our spectacular night sky. Charlestown has the darkest skies along the coast between New York and Boston. Read the post to learn guidelines for the event.

On The Wing Exhibit Opening Reception

When: Saturday, May 20 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Kettle Pond Visitors Center, Bend Road, Charlestown
What: An opening reception for the exhibit by the New England Chapter of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. This exhibit explores migratory birds and butterflies and their habitat.

Opening And Dedication Of The Ellison “Tarzan” Brown Trail
When: Saturday, May 20 at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Meet at the Kings Factory Road entrance to the Francis Carter Preserve.
Who: Everyone is invited, but dogs must be leashed.
The trail, which will now be known as the Tarzan Brown Trail, will be dedicated on Saturday with the installation of a plaque created by Ted Brown. Ted Brown is a nationally recognized mason and is the grandson of Tarzan Brown.

Where: St James Parish Center, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, Charlestown
Cost: Free parking and admission
This Plant Sale features perennials from club members' gardens as well as annuals, herbs and raffle items. New this year will be a soil-testing table run by our Master Gardeners; please bring a cup of your soil for analysis.

Support legislation to create a more accountable, transparent coastal agency for Rhode Island. The General Assembly is considering legislation to reform and improve the Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC). The CRMC plays a critical role in protecting our coastal ponds and Narragansett Bay, restoring our coastline, and preserving public access, but it is plagued by controversy, conflicts of interest, and political dealings.

The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island announce their 23rd Annual Amateur Photo Competition to highlight the beauty of the five refuges that comprise the Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Amateur photographers are encouraged to enter their existing refuge color photos or to take new ones. Photos and a $10 entry fee per photo must be received by September 7, 2023.
