Ring In New Year With Bonfire And Then Stars In Ninigret Park
December 31, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Bonfire
When: Saturday, December 31st at 4:30 p.m.
Where: Ninigret Park
Stargazing
When: Saturday, December 31st from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Where: Frosty Drew Observatory in Ninigret Park
On New Years Eve, the Town of Charlestown will host the annual bonfire in the park. When the embers of the bonfire burn down, the night sky will light up (assuming the night is clear). Frosty Drew Observatory will open for a quick window of stargazing to help ring in the New Year with views of the beautiful night sky over Ninigret Park. On the list will be Uranus, Albireo, the Orion Nebula, and possibly a comet.
Frosty Drew Observatory is open Every Friday night (weather permitting) when they open the Observatory, Science Center, Sky Theatre, and telescopes to the sky and offer free stargazing and astronomy to anybody interested in observing with them.
They open their dome and telescopes to the public shortly after dusk in the summer or at 6 p.m. in the winter.
“See the stars, distant galaxies, shining nebulae, the planets and their moons, and maybe a passing comet through our big telescope every clear Friday night. We open as soon after dusk as possible allowing for the season. We usually remain open till everybody leaves or the astronomers have geeked out enough to call it a night.“
