Coastal Ponds Clean Up
April 27, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
The 44th annual Earth day has just passed and with the weather finally starting to break, the season is beginning! What better time for us all to join together help keep our ponds beautiful. Let’s all collect as much trash and small debris along the shorelines of Ninigret and Quonochontaug ponds as possible in an effort to keep the ponds clean and pristine.
If you would like to give just a little bit of your time to participate, trash bags and rubber gloves will be provided for anyone that would like them and will be available at the Charlestown Ambulance Headquarters located at 4891 Old Post Road beginning at 9:00 AM on Sunday April 27th. Boots, or waders if you have them, and proper clothing are recommended for anyone that wishes to walk the shorelines. Any trash and debris gathered can be brought to the Charlestown Ambulance Headquarters for disposal, or arrangements can be made to have the trash collected by contacting me so it may be disposed of properly. Associations and Marinas that wish to participate by organizing their own clean-up are also welcome to contact me to make arrangements to have trash collected as well.
If any items or debris are discovered on the ponds that is too large to move or dispose of, please note its location and forward to me so it we can make arrangements to have it collected. This is an informal, volunteer event and open to anyone that would like to participate. Last year, a good amount of trash and debris was removed. This will be the second year that we are coordinating with the public, local groups, associations, and marinas to make this project a success again. Any little bit that keeps the coastal ponds clean will benefit everyone and the environment. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me.
