Basics of GPS Navigation for Beginners

This course is designed for serious individuals with little or no experience using a GPS receiver. It will start by review the essentials of Map and Compass which is an important part of GPS navigation. This is not a Geocaching course. It is a course on GPS navigation in the backcountry for Hikers, Hunters, Paddlers, and others. We will cover Navigation Skills, Navigation Tools, finding Waypoints, planning a track and entering waypoints and tracks into your GPS, using UTM and Degree scales on USGS maps, and much more. This class is free and open to the public but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please call401-364-9124, ext. 48 to register. If you currently own a GPS, please bring it with you.
