Letter by Kate Waterman: Keep an expert on the Town Council - Re-elect Virginia Lee

The political season is often called the “silly season” with good reason. One of the silliest claims being made by a local political party is that the Independent candidates on the Charlestown ballot don’t understand climate change or the importance of the Coastal Ponds.

Letter by Mark Hinkley: CCA Candidates Have Records of Success

I find that my quality of daily life in Charlestown is most affected by the type of candidates we elect to local office. These candidates have succeeded in public office because they produce public policies that work for the majority of Charlestown residents and focus on the general well being of the public.

George Tremblay Lists Accomplishments of CCA Candidates

This abbreviated record of achievements illustrates the work and dedication toward fiscal responsibility, civic pride, and environmental consciousness you can expect from CCA candidates for Town Council. Incumbent CCA candidates Virginia Lee, Denise Rhodes, and Bonnie Van Slyke, were instrumental in creating this record, and are seeking re-election. New candidates Julie Carroccia and Steve Williams attended most of the meetings of the current town council, and are well versed in its proceedings and obligations. As an outgoing town councilor, I thank you for the privilege of serving, and urge you to vote for my dedicated CCA colleagues.

Letter by Frances Topping: We may be of different political parties, but for Charlestown we are Independents

In our door to door campaign this fall of talking and listening to voters we have heard consistently that residents feel that the current Town Council and Planning Commission’s goals of preserving the character, the resources and the way of life is what the majority want with little major change. Letter by Cliff Vanover: CCA’s only "Special Interest" is Charlestown

The only “interest” that the alliance has is to protect Charlestown’s natural resources and low tax rate, to promote honest and transparent government, and to prevent unregulated development. Charlestown is indeed a very special place and it deserves our special interest.

Independent Charlestown Town Council candidates Steve Williams, Bonnie Van Slyke, Denise Rhodes, Virginia Lee, and Julie Carroccia share this same interest in Charlestown.

Letter by Joan Lawlor: Steve Williams for Charlestown Town Council

I have known one of those candidates, Steve Williams, for almost 20 years. Steve’s considerable experience in the military and the business arena, as well as his educational background, are unparalleled. Equally important, however, is Steve’s practical, common-sense approach to tackling the issues that face a small town like Charlestown.

Letter by Ruth Platner: Keep Charlestown Green, Both on the Land and in Our Wallets

It is important to elect independent Town Councilors who will put the interest of the town, its tax rate, and its environment first. These Independent Town Council candidates are committed to our environment and rural character. They understand the connection between protection of our natural resources and our low tax rate.

Letter by Tom Gentz: CCA-backed candidates will maintain town’s character

From my six-year tenure as the Charlestown Town Council president, I know management experience is needed to run the town effectively and that the policy setting group must balance what stakeholders want and the budget approved. I appreciate the diverse skills brought to the council by all members but ask that voters consider the newcomers as valued added assets to the group.
