All Day Budget Referendum
Monday, June 1, 8am to 8pm
Charlestown Town Hall

Please Vote “YES” On Question 2: “Shall the Town of Charlestown, pursuant to the relevant provisions of section C-14 of the Town Charter, acting through the Town Council, be authorized to grant or transfer any conservation easement or easements on real property and improvements thereon known as Assessors Map 17, Lot 186 commonly known as the Charlestown Moraine Preserve (the “Preserve”), as may be necessary to ensure perpetual preservation of the Preserve?”

The Charlestown Moraine Preserve:

• Makes up an unspoiled mile of Route 1 between Kings Factory Road and Prosser Trail.

• The largest remaining, undisturbed and unprotected section of the Charlestown Moraine.

• The Moraine is an internationally recognized geologic feature and the ecosystems it supports are unique.

• The unfragmented forest of this parcel, the stream draining School House Pond, and the rapidly draining soils work together to protect the water quality of the Coastal Ponds.

• Mountain laurel occurs in beautiful, dense, well-developed stands and vernal pools support some of Rhode Island’s most endangered wildlife.

• A parking area and hiking trails provide public access.

• The photo above shows one view of the Charlestown Moraine Preserve

A conservation easement is needed to protect all of this for future generations.
