Community Artists Program – Suze Sward
In a continuing effort to connect visitors to nature, the Community Artists Program displays nature inspired artwork at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center in Charlestown. Join us at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center all month (February 1– February 28, 10 am- 4 pm) to celebrate February’s showcased community artist, whose work will be displayed for the entire month and is viewable by the public 7-days a week. This month’s display will be nature inspired watercolor and gouache paintings by Suze Sward.
Charlestown artist Susan Sward combines her love of nature with her skill in painting to create a series of nature studies reminiscent of Victorian scientific journals. Naturalism in literature and the visual arts, a late 19th century movement, was inspired by the adaptation of the principles and methods of natural science, especially the Darwinian view of nature. “It was a time when science belonged to everyone”, Sward says. “The natural world was looked upon with wonder and curiosity”.
There will be an Art Reception for Suze Sward on Sunday, February 18, 1 – 3 pm at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center, (pictured in post banner). Refreshments will be served. The art reception has been rescheduled for February 25th because of snow on Sunday, February 18.
