When: Monday, December 18 at 3 p.m.
Where: Rhode Island State House (map below)
Why: The Energy Facilities Siting Board needs change. This is your chance to make your voice heard as the public is invited to a public comment hearing with the Special Commission to study the Energy Facilities Siting Act.

The Energy Facilities Siting Act (Rhode Island General Law 42-98) determines the makeup of the Energy Facility Siting Board which has responsibility to approve or deny applications for major power generating facilities.

The purpose of the commission convened by the Speaker of The House is to make a comprehensive review of the Energy Facility Siting Act and provide recommendations for improving and updating the act including, but not limited to:

  • Reviewing similar enactments in Massachusetts and Connecticut for best practices; and
  • Gathering input from relevant stakeholders in order to ensure the best public policy and outcome for coordinating, planning, and expediting decisions.

You can read read the legislation that formed the Study Commission here and read the story on UpriseRI for some additional background.

Plan to come and make your voice heard and tell the commission how you think the Energy Siting Facility Act, which approves major power generating facilities, should be improved.
