Amateur Photo Competition and Show
The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of RI are proud of Rhode Island’s beautiful national wildlife refuges. With so much to photograph, from wildlife to landscapes, we encourage amateur photographers to enter their favorite color refuge photos. You may take new photos or enter existing ones, in this, our 17th annual competition.

FORMAT/RESTRICTIONS: The color photo must be 8” x 10” and NOT MATTED. There must NOT be any writing on the front of the photo. Each contestant is limited to 4 entries. Photos must be taken on one of the five National Wildlife Refuges of RI, by an amateur photographer. Photos of mute swans, an exotic species, will not be accepted.
For your information and for the show, all photos will be matted by the Friends in black 11” x 14” mats.
FEES: $10 per photo entry fee. Make checks payable to Friends of NWR-RI. Questions, e-mail RThieke@cox.net.
DEADLINE: Photos must be received by September 6, 2017. Photos, with the entry fee, may be delivered between 10:00am and 4:00pm to the Friends of the NWR-RI office at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center, 50 Bend Rd, Charlestown RI or to the Sachuest Point Visitor Center. By mail send to Friends of the NWR-RI, 50 Bend Rd, Charlestown, RI 02813.
EXHIBIT: The photos will be judged by a panel of judges prior to the opening. ALL photos entered will be displayed in a month-long exhibit. First, second and third place winners will be chosen from each category. The Best of Show will be awarded $100. There will be other awards in each category. The opening reception will be held on September 17th at Sachuest Point Visitors Center, Middletown, and all entrants are invited. The exhibit will remain there until October 2 and then be at Kettle Pond Visitors Center, Charlestown from October 2 to October 17.
Photos may be donated to the Friends or returned. Returns should be picked up within 2 weeks of the closing of the exhibit (October 17) at either the Kettle Pond or Sachuest Point Visitors Desks or provide a self-addressed stamped envelope and they will be mailed to you. All photos not picked up by November 15th become the property of the Friends of NWR-RI. Winning photos may be reproduced and displayed by Friends. Donated photos may be sold by the Friends.
LIABILITY: Friends of the NWR-RI will not insure the entries received, or, be responsible for any loss or damage.
