Introducing the 2016 Planning Commission Candidates
These candidates will bring education, experience, science, and a commitment to conservation to the elected Planning Commission. Our candidates are unopposed, but the number of votes they recieve does make a difference. The top two vote getters will serve as full voting members. The next two vote getters will be elected as alternates. Alternates participate fully in all Planning Commission discussions and vote in the absence of a full voting member.
The Planning Commission promotes and coordinates comprehensive long-range planning, growth-management, and environmental protection to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the people, environment and economy of the town. The Planning Commission shapes the landscape and character of the town, now and into the future.
The Planning Commission routinely writes and updates the town’s Comprehensive Plan, the Zoning Ordinance and the Subdivision Regulations. The Planning Commission has written other plans such as the Ground Water Protection Plan, The Hazard Mitigation Plan, the Growth Management Plan and the Open space Plan.
All plans for the subdivision of land must be presented to the Planning Commission for their approval. The Planning Commission determines if the proposed subdivision is following the Subdivision Regulations and the Zoning Ordinance and if it is in conformance with the Comprehensive Plan.
All Commercial Site Plans are reviewed for conformance with the Zoning Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan by the Planning Commission and must satisfy the concerns of the Planning Commission before they can be approved.
