Winter Hiking in Charlestown
Charlestown is beautiful year round and there are many opportunities for winter recreation in Charlestown’s Open Space properties.
Be sure to wear warm layers and during hunting season always wear at least 200 square inches of florescent orange (usually a hat and or a vest) when hiking on state, federal, or other public and private open space. Shotgun deer season starts December 5 and ends on January 3. Please note that the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge Salt Pond Unit is closed from Saturday, December 5th until Monday, December 21st.
You can click on any image below to learn more about a particular property. Property descriptions include a locus map, link to a Google map for directions, and a trail map where available. There is also a table of recreation activities for each property.
These properties wrap around our neighborhoods, provide wildlife habitat, and give Charlestown its beautiful, natural character. Explore them in winter!
