DOT Traffic Cameras
During the recent storm, Charlestown DPW got our local roads clear early and kept them clear. State roads in Charlestown were not clear so early in the storm. There was a travel ban anyway, so great conditions wouldn’t have made a big difference at that time.
The RI DOT does provide travel cameras mounted at different places along state roads. When the travel ban was lifted and at any time you are curious about current conditions on state roads you can check the DOT cameras.
Visit the DOT website to see the South County locations covered by cameras. Click on the different tabs labeled “Rt. 1”, “Rt. 138”, etc. to see the current views of those roads. For Rt. 1, there are 9 camera locations from From Westerly to East Greenwich. None of these are in Charlestown, but it still gives a pretty good idea of road conditions after a storm.
