The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges – Winning Photos Announced
The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island announce the winners of their 14th annual amateur photo competition.
Contestants were asked to submit photos taken on one of the five National Wildlife Refuges in Rhode Island. The Refuges are Ninigret NWR in Charlestown, Trustom Pond NWR in South Kingstown, John H. Chafee NWR at Pettaquamscutt Cove in South Kingstown and Narragansett, Sachuest Point NWR in Middletown and Block Island NWR.
The “Best of Show” has been awarded to “Contemplation” taken by Stephen Wood of Wakefield, RI at Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge.
The winners in the four different categories are:
1st place: “Lurking in the Shallows” by Kaila Mattera of Simi Valley, CA taken at Trustom Pond NWR
2nd place: “Rupert” by Sylvia Gott of Colchester, CT taken at Ninigret NWR
3rd place: “Great Egret” by Neil Anthes of Wickford, RI taken at Chafee NWR
1st place: “Tiger Lily” by Greg Cummings of Fanwood, NJ at Trustom Pond NWR
2nd place: “Seeding Time” by Pam Marsden of Bristol, RI taken at Sachuest Point NWR
3rd place: “Filled with Pollen” by Jeanne Sabin of Narragansett, RI taken at Ninigret NWR
Children 14 and Under – Any Subject on a Refuge
1st place: “Spider” by Thomas Lowe of Boston, MA taken at Ninigret NWR
2nd place: “Rock Reflection” by Thomas Lowe of Boston, MA taken at Ninigret NWR
3rd place: “Rocks and Shells” by Taylor Foley of Middletown, RI taken at Sachuest Point NWR
1st place: “Rejuvenation” by Neil Anthes of Wickford, RI taken at Trustom Pond NWR
2nd place: “Winter’s Grip” by Stephen Wood of Wakefield, RI taken at Trustom Pond NWR
3rd place: “Farm Pond Reflection” by Pat Miller of Charlestown, RI taken at Trustom Pond NWR
Awards will be presented to all of the above winners at the opening reception for the exhibit on Sunday, September 14 at the U S Fish & Wildlife’s Kettle Pond Visitors Center in Charlestown, RI.
All photos entered will remain on exhibit at Kettle Pond Visitors Center, Charlestown, RI until September 29. Then they will be on exhibit at the Sachuest Point Visitors Center in Middletown, RI from September 29 to October 15th.
