Chariho Vote Tuesday – Whalerock Wednesday
Chariho FY2014 School Budget Referendum
Tuesday, June 18 – 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Charlestown Town Hall
This is the third Chariho vote this spring. Charlestown voters passed the first two budgets, but voters in Hopkinton and Richmond turned the budget down twice in much higher numbers. Even though voter turnout was higher in the other towns, turnout in all towns represents a very small percentage of voters.
Tuesday’s Chariho vote reduces the budget by $54,100. If this proposal does not get approved, the budget will actually go up to the level of the last budget vote and there will not be any more votes this year.
Next Whalerock Hearing
Wednesday, June 19 – 7:00 p.m.
Charlestown Elementary School
At the June 5 hearing, sound experts testified both for and against the proposed wind turbines. The developer promises two more experts for Wednesday night’s meeting and the town’s attorneys will also likely have more witnesses. At the last hearing the developer said everyone would be allowed to speak, but the developer’s attorney raised objections whenever the town attempted to participate.
We want to make sure that everyone who wants to speak will be able to do so, but if you don’t attend, your voice will certainly not be heard. Please try to attend Wednesday’s hearing.
