The Salamatu Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that:

  • Provides teacher training and library & resource centers for Namibia and other developing countries of the world.
  • Designs projects to empower individuals and communities.
  • Increases access to educational resources.
  • Makes educational resources broadly available.

The Salamatu Foundation was founded as a memorial to Kyrstin Leonora Scharninghausen who died in November 1996 while serving with the Peace Corps in the southern African country of Namibia. Kyrstin grew up in Charlestown and members of her family still live here. Through the Salamatu foundation, the family continues the work that Kyrstin started.

The party and silent auction is at the home of Sue and George Tremblay. They are the tree farm on Rt. 112, just north of Town Hall.
